The flag pine and meeting the roe deerDeparture at 9 from Vlora to reach the Llogara Pass in about 45 minutes. Here you will find a real vantage point where, on clear days, you have a view that sweeps across the Ionian coast of Albania, up to Corfu, the Greek island. But the first real stop on your tour is a few minutes later, when you reach the equipped area of the Sorkadhja Natural Spring. Here, in the shade of the trees, young and old will be able to meet the main attraction, the tender roe deer. Over time, the roe deer community that lives in the area has become accustomed to human presence and the animals can be admired up close. Not far from Sorkadhja you will find a real natural work of art. It is the Pisha Flamur (Pine of the flag), a plant that time and weather have folded into a flag shape. You will stop at the bar for a few minutes to taste a coffee in the open air and then you will leave for the next stop on your tour, the Llogara National Park.
The Steps and the Path of Julius Caesar
Let’s go hiking Llogara national park! Back on board the My Tour vehicles, during the journey your gaze will be fixed on the coast. You are right at the seaside resort of Dhermi and you can observe it from above. After 30 minutes on the road you will arrive at the Steps of Cesar. Yes, it was he who passed here over 2,000 years ago and then would become the future first Emperor of Rome. At the helm of a powerful contingent, Cesar crossed the Otranto Channel and landed on the coasts of Albania, near Vlora. Then he headed towards Palasa beach, knowing that Pompeo had retired to these mountains. Going up to the Llogara Pass, Cesare would have received a loud blow from Pompeo's troops, albeit numerically lower. However, Caesar left here symbolic traces of his passage. In addition to the steps, in fact, the Caesar's Trail is famous in the area, a moderate difficulty hiking route, which runs for about 30 minutes up to the Caesar's Neck, where you will stop to admire the historic village. Here there is a church built in honor of St. Demetrius, and the remains of a campus, a Roman settlement. Wrapped in this magical atmosphere steeped in history, you will be able to relax by listening to the stories of the roman civil war, the stories of Cesar and Pompey narrated by myTour expert guides. Finally, the tour ends in the best way: when lunch time comes, you will stop to taste the characteristic dishes of the Llogara region, made from organic products grown by a local company.
Llogara National Park: history and useful informationThe Llogara National Park is one of the first protected natural areas in Albania, it was in fact established back in 1966. This area, made up of over 1,000 hectares of forests, continues to be a real treasure trove of biodiversity, a unicum throughout the Mediterranean Sea basin. Here, walking and mountain biking lovers can enjoy themselves, as well as birdwatchers. Or simply all those who love to enjoy the beauty of the landscape photographed from privileged observation points. Llogara is a mountainous region very close to the coast, located some tens of kilometers south of Vlora. The area extends from the 2,044 meters high of Mount Cika - the highest peak, passing from the panoramic point of the Llogara Pass (1,200 meters), to descend to the valleys near the sea.
Over 100 species of birds live or migrate here and the landscape is dominated by green trees. A very characteristic vegetation, made of pines, oaks and firs that have made space between the limestone and the Dolomite rocks. This is typical vegetation of Eastern Europe, which falls within the macro region of the Illyrian Deciduous Forests (which extends from Trieste to southern Greece).
