A Journey Through Macedonia and Kosovo: A Tapestry of History and Culture

Day 1: Ohrid and Skopje

Embark on a captivating exploration of Ohrid, a town steeped in ancient history and recognized by UNESCO as one of the Oldest Human Settlements in Europe. Nestled on the shores of the ancient Lake Ohrid, this town has served as a crossroads of cultures, traditions, and invasions for centuries.

Known as the "Jerusalem of the Balkans," Ohrid has played a vital role in the spread of Slavic Orthodoxy, boasting an impressive 365 churches dating back to the 11th century—one for each day of the year. Your tour of Ohrid begins with a visit to the Old City and the formidable "Samuil Fortress," offering a glimpse into the town's rich past.

Descending to the picturesque Kaneo bay, where the first postcard of Ohrid was captured, witness the charm of the Church of St John. The tour concludes in the lower part of Ohrid, where the meeting of two parts of the city and two religions stands as a testament to tolerance and coexistence.

Transitioning to Skopje, the capital of North Macedonia, explore a city that serves as the largest Economical, Political, and Cultural Centre of the country. Uncover its fascinating history, marked by ancient and medieval kingdoms, as you stroll through the Contemporary Skopje, adorned with countless statues and monuments. Visit iconic landmarks such as the Bridges, the main square, and the "House of Mother Teresa." Delve into the city's religious tolerance by exploring the symbolic buildings of the church of "St Klemend of Ohrid" and the "Mustafa Pasha" Mosque.

Day 2: Pristina and Prizren

Venture into Pristina, the capital of Kosovo, a city with roots dating back to the Old Stone Age. Explore its rich archeological and historical sites, including the National Library, an architectural marvel showcasing a mix of Byzantine, Ottoman, and Serbian styles. Discover the city center, witness the monument of the Newborn, and visit the Mother Theresa Cathedral. Immerse yourself in the diverse religious landscape with visits to Muslim mosques, including the ancient Carshia Mosque.

Travel to Prizren, the Kosovo Cultural Capital. Admire the city's significance in 19th-century Albanian politics and history. Discover the history of the city at the Ethnographic Museum and tour the House of the Prizren League, a significant political institution. The tour continues with stops at the "Stone Bridge of Love" and Prizren's Traditional Bazaar, where the cobblestone streets come alive with artisanal goods, scents from local cuisine, and perfume shops. It's the ideal way to cap off a day full of rich cultural experiences.
