About Tiranë

Tirana is the capital of Albania, and as a capital, houses the most important administrative, political, economic, cultural, and religious institutions. The center of the city is composed of buildings that hold and express Albanian history: the early history, the communist period, the democratic and contemporary Albania.

While being in Tirana you shouldn’t miss visiting Skanderbeg Square, the main square of the city. It was named in honor of the Albanian national hero Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg and it is also where a statue of him stands.

This square has been just recently renovated to a contemporary design. However here you will find buildings such as the Palace of Culture, the National Opera, the National Bank, the Ethem Bey Mosque, and the Clock Tower that are the finest representations of Albanian history and culture. Not far away from the square, you can see an uncommon structure - the Pyramid of Tirana, a symbol of communism that was designed to be a museum back then. Of course, the city has a lot more to mention. While being in Tirana, you can also visit Tirana Castle, Toptani street, the New Bazaar, Ish-Blloku district, and relax at the Artificial Lake. One more thing that you should definitely visit in the city is the BunkArt museum, a massive bunker that was meant to accommodate the dictator and his companions in case of a nuclear attack. Tirana has a lot to offer for everyone visiting it.
