About Elbasan

Elbasan is the third-largest city in Albania and at the same time the center of the district with the same name. The city is located in Central Albania in the field of Elbasan, surrounded on the east by Krasta e Madhe e Vogël, on the north and northwest by the hills of Ullishta, on the west by the stream Zaranika, on the south, it is bordered from the river Shkumbin. On the west side of the city passes the Zaranika stream and from the east the Manazderie stream. Elbasan is located at an average altitude of 125 m above sea level.

Until 2000, Elbasan County was subdivided into four districts: Gramsh, Elbasan, Librazhd, and Peqin. The local government reform of 2015 divided the county into the following 7 municipalities: Belsh, Gramsh, Librazhd, Peqin, Cërrik, Elbasan, and Prrenjas.

If you plan to visit Elbasan, there are some main attractions you must visit. The Castle of Elbasan is for sure the most visited monument in the city but there are also others. We can mention the Mosque of Nazireshë, the waterlily-filled Lakes of Belsh, Holta’s Canyon, Sotira Waterfall, Monastery of St. John of Vladimir, Peqin Castle and the Clocktower, Lakes of Funari and Gjinar.
