The tour starts at 8:00 AM with pick up at the hotel and then you will head towards the border to Kosovo in Morina. On the ride, you will immediately be able to spot the differences between Tirana city life and rural life in Albania. In the countryside, the footprints of the communist regime are still notable and on your way, you can see what is left of the former industrial cities built during that period.
Once we arrive in Prizren, also called, “the city of the 50 mosques”, we will head to the castle. This fortress is also known as the "Prizren Crown" because just like a crown, it surrounds the hill overlooking the city. The current building was built by the Serbian Tsar Stefano Dušan where some of the oldest settlements in the old city were already present. From here you can enjoy a wonderful view of this picturesque city, whose skyline stretches between numerous mosques, minarets mixed with churches, houses and Turkish baths.
After the visit to the castle we will continue to the heart of the city, entering at the Sinan Pasha Mosque, the largest and most visited mosque in the city. Muslims still worship here and the architecture will leave you speechless, with its 42.5 meters dome and its elegant furnishings inside..Sinan Pasha Mosque was built in 1615 by Sofi Sinan Pasha, a politician in the Ottoman administration, with river stones and the remains of the previous Church of Sant'Arcangelo. Today the building has been restored and it is considered to be one of the largest religious and cultural monuments in the city. Inside, the square shape of the building offers an open dimension of spirituality, while the repeating decorative designs on the walls of the dome will draw your attention to the ceiling.
Leaving the mosque, your guide will take you to visit the League of Prizren, a historic building from the 1800s that became famous for being the seat of the league with the same name, built to defend the rights of the Albanian nation. Today, there you can find the Ethnographic Museum, which exposes collected pieces at the time of the Ottoman invasion.
Our guided tour of Prizren Kosovo ends with a visit to St. Ljeviš Cathedral. You will only be able to see the exterior of this building since it has been closed for renovation after the serious damage received in 2004. This 14th century church is a unique building that holds its own sad history and you will be able to see the amazing architectural style of it. At lunchtime, you will have enough free time to enjoy your meal in Prizren or go shopping in the traditional shops and souvenir kiosks. Then, it’s time to get head back to Tirana.
If you are wondering where is Kosovo located, it is not far from Albania. This day tour from Tirana to Kosovo Prizren is a unique opportunity to discover one of the most beautiful regions of Kosovo, located in the southern part of the country, not far from the border with Albania and Macedonia. It is the second largest city in Kosovo, and it has been known for its beauty since the Middle Ages. The city is 450 meters high and is protected by the chain of the Sharr Mountains, which has an elevation of 2748 meters.
In the center of the old city, you will see a real architectural jewel built along the banks of the Lumbardhi river (the white river also called Bistrica), and you can also walk between churches and mosques. Walking, respectfully, along the winding streets of the old city, your guide will tell you the secrets and legends of the city. Passing through the ancient stone bridge you reach Piazza Shadervani, the main square. Around here there are two important places of worship, the wonderful Sinan Pasha mosque and the Orthodox church of San Giorgio. But the most important church in Prizren is the Cathedral of Our Lady of Ljeviš, built in the 14th century and now protected by UNESCO. Many invasions have followed each other in Prizren and have left their traces in the old city.. To get an overview of this city of Kosovo from above, just go up to Kalaja, the ancient castle built by the Serbs in 1300. Enjoy it!
