Guided tour of Lumas and Sineci

On the map of Albania's natural wonders, Sineci canyon, with its natural pools, deserves to have a special place. To reach it in the cooler hours, we leave Berat at 8:30 a.m. and arrive in Lumas after a half-hour drive. The Lumas region is rich in water springs, myths, legends and ruins of ancient civilizations, so we won't be bored!

The natural pools and canyons in Sineci

Having parked our vehicles in Lumas, we leave behind the last houses located at the edge of the forest, and in a few minutes of walking within fantastic natural scenery, we reach the canyon area of Sineci. Here everyone has a choice of what they prefer to do. For relaxation and refreshment there is the natural pool of Sineci, whose crystal clear water comes from a spring underground. In addition, there are some small inns in the Sineci area where you can eat. Excursion lovers, on the other hand, are spoiled for choice. You can proceed along the course of the river and admire the canyon, with its wonderful rock concretions shaped by water over millions of years. 

Dragon Cave

Passing through forests and successive water sources, one can reach the mysterious Dragon's Cave. A dark cave, on the walls of which the remains of drawings and frescoes can be discerned.  

For a long time in Lumas grandparents have been telling their grandchildren about the story of the dragon who lived in the caves at the top of the mountain. Not far from his cave men had founded a small village, the village of Katunda. But the dragon one day became angry with the men, burned down their village and killed them all, leaving only one little girl alive. Whenever the maiden returned to visit the remains of the village where her family had burned, she began to cry. Thanks to the water from her tears, the natural pools of Sineci were formed.
