About Berat

Berat county is located in the south of the country, 120 km south of Tirana and it borders Elbasan in the north, Korçe in the east, Gjirokaster in the south, and Fier in the west. The total population is 60,031 (2011) in a total area of 380.21 km2. Berat is surrounded by mountains and hills including Tomorr on the east that was declared a national park. The river Osum runs through the city before it empties into the Seman within the Myzeqe Plain. The municipality of Berat was formed at the 2015 local government reform by the merger of the former municipalities Berat, Otllak, Roshnik, Sinjë and Velabisht, that became municipal units. If you plan to visit Berat, don’t forget to see Berat Castle and Onufri Museum of Icons. Another interesting monument is Gorica Bridge, made of stone with seven arches and a llandmark with a similar design to the Ottoman bridge in Visegrad, which links Mangalemi and Gorica. While being in Berat you should also visit Bulevardi Republika, Church of St. Mary of Vllaherna, Mosque in Berat, Dimal, National Ethnographic Museum, Mount Tomorr, Osumi River Gorge, Bogove Waterfall, Cobo Winery and Halveti Teqe.
