Tour with oil tasting and visit to oil mill

This tour gives us the opportunity to visit beautiful villages, walk among olive trees and taste Berat's famous extra virgin olive oil. We set off at 9 a.m. to reach the nearby hills 10 km outside of Berat, where there are extensive olive groves. With the help of our guides, we meet farming families who take us to experience each step in oil production. The entire oil campaign, from the care of the plants, to the process of harvesting the olives, to pressing and storing. 

Walk among the centuries-old olive trees, enjoying a unique view of the surroundings. Soak up the country atmosphere as you listen to all the information regarding harvesting techniques. Here you will find out what they are talking about when they refer to all the effort behind every single drop of extra virgin olive oil.

After visiting the farm, we relax with a small picnic in the fields based on local products. Tasting of course the oil made on site, a product that you cannot find on supermarket counters.

In addition, a 250 ml free sample is included in the visit.

The morning continues with a visit to a small medieval village, where we are served a meal of traditional dishes, before returning to Berat.

Olive oil production in Albania

Albania has more than 12 million olive trees, 1.5 million of which are between 1,000 and 3,000 years old. Already from this mapping of the trees it is clear that oil, the liquid gold, has always been of strategic importance in these parts. The main areas where oil is made in Albania are those located in the prefectures of Tirana, Vlora, Elbasan, and of course Berat. Lovers of the prince of the Mediterranean diet know that October and November are the best months to buy new oil from Berat. The best oil is bought directly from the producer, and around Berat we can find Fabrika and vajit ullirit Xhema, Malasi, Gjozi Plant, Pieralisi Plant in Drobonik, and Bujari Plant in Cukalat.
