Shkodra: The Albania that you are not expectingIt is a pearl hidden in the heart of Albania. The city of Shkoder Albania is one of the oldest cities in the Mediterranean area. If you are on vacation in Albania, don’t ask how to get to Shkoder. Get on the board of this tour, avoid stress and have fun!Ranked as the fourth biggest city in Albania by territories and by population as well. Shkodra is found in the Albanian - Mountblack border where the countries share the lake that also holds the name of the city - Shkoder Lake. Shkodra is a must-visit for the ones that love the beauty of nature, great food, fine wine and the charm of history. Inhabited since the Bronze age, Shkodra was one of the main centers of the Illyrian Kingdom in the II century A.C. then, after the Roman invasion, it was an important commercial and transition center. To continue, for one thousand years, the Byzantines, Serbians, and Bulgarians followed each other in invasions before the arrival of Venetians. In almost one hundred years of domination, the Venetians defended the city from the Ottoman conqueror, leaving behind architectural structures and fortifications.

Program:

Departure from Tirana. Arrival in Shkodra and start of the tour with a visit to the Castle and the Museum inside, which houses an interesting collection of objects and documents, which illustrate the history of the city from the Illyrian to the Ottoman periods, the wars fought by Scutari against Romans, Byzantines and Slavs, and the heroic resistance of the locals to the siege of the Ottoman army. Guided tour of the city and the Marubi museum (optional), the most important photographic museum in the country and one of the most important in the Balkans. In return lunch possibility by the Skadar Lake, in an area commonly known as “Shiroke” where the fish lovers may have the chance to taste the local specialty, Karp cooked in casarole.
