Korça is the city where the largest carnival in Albania is organized, which takes place before Orthodox Easter.
Located in the southern heart of the country, 853 meters above sea level and protected by the mountains that surround it, Korça is a graceful urban agglomeration from the historic center with slate roofs, which is about four hours from the capital.
Korça is one of the major cultural and economic centers in the country and it is known for its low houses and villas, covered with cobblestone.
Korçë County is one of the 12 counties of Albania, located in the southeastern side of the country. With the total population is 75,994 (2011) in a total area of 806.67 km2, it is the largest county of Albania by area and the sixth-largest city in Albania. Its capital is the city of Korçë.
Since 2015, the county consists of the following 6 municipalities: Devoll, Kolonjë, Korçë, Maliq, Pogradec and Pustec.
Known as southern Albania’s intellectual capital, Korça is also regarded as the Albanian cultural metropolis.
